Fly Fishing The Upper Teign In Devon
The Upper Teign is a magical river, clambering along its banks you enter another world. A spate river holding brown trout, sea trout and salmon. The tree lined banks make wading essential though not easy. With a bolder strewn bed and deep pots an important piece of equipment is a wading staff, and a life jacket is recommended. The stretch from Engine House Pool down to Black Pool offers some of the best brown trout fishing on the beat. Fingle Weir pool is always worth a try if you are after a sea trout.
Recommended flies for trout are Black Gnat, Klinkhammer and Pheasant Tail. The brown trout are frequently not large about the 6-9 inch mark with the occasional special fish of about a 1lb. You will not however find prettier fish or a more enchanting place to be.
